Our Infants program at a glance

We provide a relevant, meaningful and individualised curriculum for all students across the Pre-School to Year 2 Range. Our curriculum programs are underpinned by the belief that children should be supported in developing their emerging interests and talents.

To achieve this, we provide a broad range of programs which ensure that our students possess the knowledge, skills and social values necessary to achieve success within their life long  learning journey. If you are a prospective parent, please feel free to contact us to see how we can support your child in their critical early years of schooling.

At Australia Street Infants school we ensure that provide the highest standard of teaching and learning experiences to your child. We ensure that we adhere to the NSW Board of Studies syllabus requirements for K-2 whilst engaging as a staff in regular professional development.

In addition to this, we have developed an enrichment program that runs each afternoon. Quickly explained our enrichment program is an initiative in which every teacher takes a class in their area of expertise and delivers it to all students K-2. This ensures that we provide the highest standard of teaching and learning programs to all students across all of our key learning areas.

All classrooms in the school are equipped with an Interactive whiteboard and all students have access to wireless laptop computers on demand. In saying this however, we believe that technology should facilitate engaging and interactive learning. As such we provide meaningful and relevant learning opportunities for students to create and engage rather than simply sitting and doing! Over the past few years we have supported students in engaging in video conferencing links to overseas countries, create podcasts and participate in interactive lessons in the classrooms. In fact there is not one "Chalkboard" left in the school!

Extra Curricula Programs

At Australia Street, we provide a variety of extra-curricula opportunities for your child to experience after school. Currently we offer Art, French, Chess and Karate. These classes are offered in conjunction with our Outside School Hours Care program.

String Ensemble Program

In 2008 we have established a new a string ensemble program as an elective program for students from Kindergarten to Year 2. This program provides both ensemble experience and the oppotunity for individual instruction.

To assist parents getting started, we have access to a discounted hire and/or purchase program for string instruments taking the worry and expense out of choosing your child's first instrument.

Transition to Year 3

We understand the importance of developing not only an early childhood focus, but also a complete K-6 Perspective, including transition between Pre-School and Kindergarten and Year 2 to Year 3. As such we have developed a strong reciprocal learning partnership with Newtown Public School which is our neighbouring K-6 School. Through this partnership we are able to provide combined schools Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, regular year 2 class visits (usually twice a term) to each others school sites, as well as a range of special activities and celebrations through out the year for our P-2 Children.

The aim of our partnership is to ensure the successful transition of all our Year 2 students as a social group to their next stage of schooling, through the development of social links and friendships which can be carried on through their primary years.

We also understand the importance of choosing a 3-6 school which meets your child's individual social and academic needs. As such  we are more than happy to support your child's transition to other local DET Schools such as Stanmore Public School, Newtown North Public School and Darlington Public School.

Teacher availability

As we acknowledge and value the importance of regular parent communication , all staff are available for a quick chat in the playground for 15 minutes each afternoon. This is a valuable oppotunity to engage with your child's teacher on an informal level.

From our experience we find that through regular conversations with your child's teacher issues and concerns can be managed effectivly. This is a community stratergy that is unique to Australia Street!

Parent Involvement

We encourage parents to become actively involved in their children's educational programs through volunteering to assist with our daily reading program and other whole school activities.

In addition to this we ask that parents consider taking on the role of class parent which assists in the organisation of class social activities, assists on school excursions and other parent initiatives throughout the school year.
