Our Pre-School The Australia Street Infants Pre-School provides a seamless transition from Lennox House and aims to prepare your child for school through the provision of a wide variety of experiences that will assist your child's individual social and physical growth and development. Within the pre-school program, the development of the "whole" child is addressed through the belief that each child is an individual at their own level of development and possess unique experiences, perspectives and talents which they bring with them to Pre-School. It is from this foundation that each child's emotional, social, physical, intellectual and language development is supported and developed.

Our Pre-School Environment Our pre-school environment assists in preparing children for large group contexts and working with adults aside from their parents. Throughout the year, children are involved in many facets of the Australia Street Community which includes regular involvement in whole school activities which include: P-2 Buddies, P-2 Sport and Library programs. It is hoped that through an active involvement in our K-2 programs and a balanced and relevant pre-school program, each child will make a smooth transition into Kindergarten at Australia Street or into other schools in the local area. Our Programs Our programs provide many experiences of varying ability levels in each of the developmental areas. This allows for careful monitoring to establish your child's needs and areas of interest. Within our programs, we aim to encourage creative thinking, decision making, problem solving and building on existing theories of the world, whilst challenging and supporting your child to reach their potential. Your child will be encouraged to be an active member of our programs, and assist us to design engaging and stimulating activities which match your child's developing interests and talents. Pre-School Fees Our Pre-School fees are set by the Department of Education and Training. Pre-School fees cover your child's tuition and all daily meals (which include a hot lunch) freshly prepared by our Pre-School Chef. In 2008/9 our fees are $100.00 per week and can be paid either weekly, fortnightly or by the term online form our school shop or in person at the school office. |
The role of our teachers The role of teachers and carers within the pre-school is to provide a stimulating and interesting environment, where growth and development can take place through establishing social and developmental programs which extend and enrich your child's first experiences of pre-school. Teachers are also responsible for being positive role models and assisting children with behaviour management to encourage development of self-control and positive peer interactions. Pre-School and the K-2 Infants program At Australia Street Infants School, we view all of our early childhood programs as a continuum of learning which begins at Lennox House, moves through to Pre-School and finally into the K-2 Infants Program. To achieve this, we ensure that Pre-School is integrated into a range of whole school activities (Pre-School to Year 2) which include; Weekly Assembly, Buddy groups, Library time, Computers and Sport on a weekly basis. Through Pre-School participating in these programs, children develop social friendships with a range of children P-2 who will become supportive friends, become familiar with all the teachers at school, and most importantly experience aspects of school routines and programs which assist in developing a sense of school readiness when they make the transition to Kindergarten |

Starting
Pre-School with us Starting Pre-School is a significant step for the whole family not just your child. At Australia Street we are committed to ensuring that the whole family is involved in the transition to school. In this regard we aim to ensure that not only is your child familiar with our school and teachers, but that you are also provided with opportunities to meet our staff, tour our school and attend parent workshops that cover all aspects of school policies, procedures and general school life. We believe that with your first child in particular parents are making an equally significant step in transitioning to school along with their child and as such needs to be a significant part of our transition to school programs that we provide each year. |
