The family of the teenager killed in a recent accident on Lake Minnetonka has launched a memorial fund and scholarship in his honor.

Michael McNulty, a 15-year-old from Chanhassen, died on the evening of June 30 when the jet ski he was driving was involved in a collision with another jet ski. He suffered multiple blunt injuries.

Sunday, Minnetonka High School Football Program – in which McNulty participated – announced the creation of the Michael McNulty Memorial Fund:

The announcement says the fund “will help those most deserve it and provide scholarships to support our local academic and athletic communities,” to reflect how “Michael has led with kindness and empathy.”

Donations are made via Venmo or by check; the website encourages anyone interested in more information on how to help contact Coach Mark Esch at [email protected].

According to his obituary, McNulty leaves behind a twin brother, Colin.

He also says that Michael “really believed in a better world, and in no time he did,” having been a “connector” who was “a friend of so many people and loved to be involved in everything.”

He participated in a wide range of academic and athletic activities at school, including soccer, football, and baseball.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at the Westwood Community Church in Chanhassen / Excelsior.
